Embiid threw down a left-handed driving dunk during the scrimmage before making a surprising comment about the play afterward. PhillyVoice’s Adam Aaronson shared Embiid’s note on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Probably the last dunk of my career,” Embiid said.

The comment came after Embiid made a significant move in the scrimmage and performed well on the court. Aaronson noted earlier in the event that the former MVP looked comfortable attacking the basket.

“Lefty drive for Joel Embiid is moving pretty well right now. He’s played some minutes,” Aaronson wrote.

Embiid’s health remains one of the biggest stories surrounding Philadelphia heading into the 2026-27 season. The 76ers will need their star center as they try to contend with a revamped roster that now features LeBron James along with Embiid.

James also gave Embiid encouraging words after nearly a week of practice. The two stars previously played together for Team USA during the 2024 Paris Olympics, giving James a point of reference to assess Embiid’s current physical condition.

James said Embiid is healthier than he was during the Olympics and said their previous experiences together made it easier to develop chemistry.

“It’s been good. It’s been great, actually,” James said.

Embiid’s presence and action during Saturday’s shootout provides another positive development as Philadelphia prepares for preseason action. While his record for potentially the final dunk of his career drew attention, his ability to play extended minutes and attack the rim was an encouraging sign for the 76ers.

Philadelphia will continue to monitor Embiid in the preseason as they try to prepare their new-look roster for the regular season.
