Joe Scally continues his strong attacking form in the German Cup win

Joe Scally is quickly becoming the center of attention for Borussia Moenchengladbach’s comeback this autumn.

Scally assisted once in Gladbach’s 2-0 German Cup win over Karlsruher on Tuesday, continuing the positive form for the American defender. The Bundesliga side have won back-to-back matches for the first time this season.

Robin Hack boosted Alexander Blessin’s side after seven minutes, heading Scully’s cross into the net.

It marked Scally’s second assist of the season, his fourth goal contribution in his last four matches and his fifth goal of the campaign overall.

Despite the home team being down to 10 men at half-time, four minutes after the break, Lukas Ullrich extended Gladbach’s lead to two.

Scully logged the full 90 minutes as the third centre-back, winning three tackles, making five clearances and making two tackles. The 23-year-old helped record Gladbach’s second shutout of the season, both coming in the German Cup.

Gladbach sporting director Rouven Schroder has praised Scally’s recent impact over the past few weeks, hoping the defender can continue to be influential for the club.

“What is actually happening with Scally,” Schroder told Bild in a post-match interview. “Joe is dangerous now, hats off to him! It’s really amazing and he can keep it up.”

Next up for Gladbach is a Bundesliga game at home to Paderborn on Saturday before a trip to Hamburg before the November international break.
