Jesus de Miguel’s family said the “mark he left on so many people” was something they would always remember as the footballer’s funeral was held on Thursday.
The 30-year-old Tenerife forward died on Monday after suffering a serious injury in a Spanish second division match.
After colliding with the Andorra club’s goalkeeper, De Miguel lay motionless on the pitch while being treated by paramedics and was taken to hospital, where the father-of-one died at 07:00 GMT on Tuesday.
Goalkeeper Jesus Ovono was sent off and the game was stopped.
Hours after the death was announced, mourners laid flowers and lit candles under a black-and-white picture of De Miguel at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez stadium on the island of Tenerife, where Monday’s game was played.
A minute’s silence was observed at all games in European competition this week for De Miguel, who joined Tenerife in the summer of 2025.
Her agent Manuel Hernandez released a statement on behalf of her family: “Thank you for loving her, remembering her and being with us.
“We can’t find enough words to thank you for every message, every phone call and every gesture of love we’ve received.
“Thank you to everyone who remembers him – his colleagues, friends, supporters and all the clubs who have given us their condolences and stood by us at this deeply painful time.
“Feeling so much love for Jesus and seeing the mark he left on so many people is something we will always carry with us.”
