Jalen Sore For Season: What It Means For The Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been ruled out for the season after doctors discovered multiple blood clots in his lungs.

In Philadelphia’s Week 4 loss against the Los Angeles Rams, Hurts accidentally sprained his calf. After injuring his calf, he underwent an ultrasound in London on October 10, which revealed a superficial blood clot. Nevertheless, the Eagles let Hurts play.

After the Eagles lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, the extent of Hurts’ blood clotting problems worsened, as a subsequent ultrasound revealed the clot had moved, prompting Philadelphia to place Hurts on injured reserve, which would have kept him out for four games.

But on Monday, after multiple blood clots were discovered in the lungs, Hurts’ season was over because his health was paramount. According to his agent, Hurts will be sidelined for three months while he receives treatment. The good news is that Hurts is expected to make a full recovery, but after doctors discovered blood clots in the lungs, it went from a manageable problem to a medical emergency.

What does this mean for the Eagles?

Philadelphia was already struggling until Hurts got hurt. Without it? Head coach Nick Sirianni’s job is getting tougher.

The Eagles lost 25-14 in Tanner McKee’s first start in place of Hurts, and the backup wasn’t very good.

McKee was 26-of-45 passing for 215 yards and a touchdown.

Clearly, he’s not the savior of Philadelphia’s offensive woes. But it was clear before the 6th week. McKee couldn’t even beat veteran backup Andy Dalton, who was released and declined to return to the Eagles this week.

On Monday morning, Dalton signed with the Atlanta Falcons, proving he won’t be an option for Philly.

The Eagles also placed Joe Milton off the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad, and he is sharing backup duties with Cole Payton.

While running the ball is tough with a limited passing offense, the Eagles need to spam Saquon Barkley. DeVonta Smith caught McKee’s touchdown, which is encouraging.

The NFC East is wide open because of how bad the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Chiefs are. The New York Giants have shown they are not invincible, even though John Harbaugh has found some magic with Jameis Winston after losing Jaxson Dart for the year.

Is there really a player out there for the Eagles to trade to significantly change their outlook during the offseason? For now, it seems like the best course of action is to pray for Hurts to make a full recovery and be ready for the 2027 NFL Draft.
