Ireland Cricket: Skipper Paul Stirling ruled out for rest of Namibia series

Ireland captain Paul Stirling will miss the last two games of his team’s one-day international series in Namibia with a broken finger.

The 36-year-old suffered the injury during his team’s loss in the third ODI on Tuesday, which saw his team trail the hosts 2-1 in the five-match series.

Tim Tector, brother of Harry Tector, was called up as a substitute.

The younger Tector sister is uncapped in ODIs, although she has made eight appearances for the side in T20 cricket, averaging 17 in the shorter format.

The injury to Stirling, who are struggling to save the series, is another blow to manager Gary Wilson.

The Irishman was unable to bat in his side’s innings on Tuesday following an injury but scored a pair of half-centuries to lead the side with 56 and 77 in the first two games in Windhoek.

Ireland won the series opener on October 22, but have suffered losses of 31 and 63 runs in the two games since then.

The series, used by Ireland as a warm-up for next year’s World Cup qualifiers, resumes on Friday before the final match on Sunday.
