Viktor Gokeres was Arsenal’s top scorer last season and a former Gunner swedish defender.
Victor Gyokeres didn’t get the credit he deserved at Arsenal last season and according to Jeremie Aliadiere, the club don’t need a striker who can score 30 goals every year.
The Swede joined from Sporting CP last summer in a deal worth £64million and helped the Gunners win their first Premier League title in 22 years, as well as reach the Champions League and Carabao Cup finals.
Despite the 28-year-old scoring 21 goals in all competitions, many criticized Gyokeres. Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka were the club’s next top scorers with 11 goals each, while Kai Havertz netted just seven times despite his injury-ravaged season.

Former Arsenal striker Aliadiere believes Arsenal’s style of play does not suit a goalscorer. Speaking to Betway, he said: ”It’s difficult because you think to be successful you need a striker to go and score 30 goals, but Arsenal proved that’s not the case.
“Havertz has started the season well for me and I think Arsenal’s style of play – getting the ball out wide and using wing midfielders – may not suit the type of striker the fans are calling for. It was great to see Gyokeres again at the weekend and he scored some important goals last year and probably doesn’t get the credit he deserves.”
Aliadiere, who was part of Arsenal’s Invincibles side that won the Premier League in 2003/04, is delighted that the majority of his 2025/26 squad will remain at the Emirates Stadium. However, the performances of Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli have worried the former Middlesbrough man.
“I think it was great that Mikel was able to keep his best players this summer because when you’re successful there will always be clubs that want to buy your star players,” Aliadiere said.
“It was important to keep the core of this team, but I don’t think losing Trossard and Martinelli on the left was ideal. I know there was talk of a transfer for Vinicius Junior, which would be amazing, but I feel we might be a little short in that area of the pitch.
“It’s difficult when you’re a champion, but you don’t want to sign anyone for that, you really want to add quality to the squad and add players to take you to the next level.”
