Manchester United may be desperate to sign a proven striker in 2027, but one of their priority targets now appears to be out of reach. The Red Devils’ suffering this season can be explained by their inability to strengthen their attack in the summer.
The Premier League giants were scoring goals for fun last campaign following the arrival of Michael Carrick. Benjamin Sesko was impressive until an unfortunate injury in the final weeks of the season, while Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo enjoyed solid debut campaigns at Old Trafford.

However, there was a perception that their relaxed schedule – only playing one game a week because they were in the Premier League – helped their cause. United eventually secured third place in the league and the general belief was that they would struggle with the rigors of Champions League football.
So before the start of the season, attacking reinforcements were expected, especially given the poor form of Joshua Zirkzee, a new striker to compete with Sesko. Bayern player Harry Kane is among the candidates linked to United.
Long time fans of Harry Kane united
United have been eyeing Kane since his time at Tottenham Hotspur and turned down the chance to secure his services in the summer of 2023. The Englishman instead joined Bayern Munich and was a revelation at the Allianz Arena.

Kane’s exploits with the Bundesliga champions saw him lift the 2026 Ballon d’Or. The Red Devils will rue the decision to opt for Rasmus Hojlund instead of the 33-year-old, as goalscoring remains the bane of the team at the moment.
While the Premier League giants have created chances this season, the squad lacks a world-class player. United need someone who can keep the opposition on their toes and help bring their speedy runners into play.
There is no one better for the job than Kane at the moment, and with his contract at the Bavarians set to expire next summer, it was believed that United could have a chance to right their previous mistake in 2027.
However, the Englishman has now given timely information about his future, which could throw cold water on the plans of the “red devils”.

Kane is set to stay at Bayern Munich
Kane has previously revealed he is in talks to renew with the German giants. Speaking to the media during the Champions League match against Atletico Madrid, the player confirmed that he is very close to building his future at the Allianz Arena.
The English striker said: “I would say so [a] matter of the day. Had some good conversations this weekend and today as well. I know I keep saying we’re close, but we’re so close right now.”
The renewal would be a huge blow for the Red Devils, who desperately need a proven number 9 in January to get their season back on track. The English giants are 17th in the Premier League table after 9 games this season with just one win.

They have scored a total of 10 goals in nine league games and 17 goals in 13 competition games. The arrival of someone like Kane in January would have greatly improved the attack, but it now appears that INEOS will have to look elsewhere to solve their goalscoring woes.
