Gian Piero Gasperini explains the changes he made for Roma during the trip to Turin and looks back fondly on Donyell Malen’s debut here. “I realize we picked a great player!”

They also returned to the Champions League after a seven-year absence, drawing 1-1 with Fenerbahce in Istanbul, but this came at a cost.
Gasperini forced to make Roma changes
“Wesley suffered a serious knock in the last game and is still recovering. Ndika had flu symptoms last night, so he didn’t even come to the court.” Gasperini told DAZN Italy.
Manu Cone also limped off in that game and was on the bench, but that gave Leonardo Baledi and Nahuel Molina the chance to start for the first time.
The changes Gasperini has chosen not to make are in attack, as Paulo Dybala, Matias Sule and Mullen have been confirmed in advance, while Rodrigo Moura and Santiago Castro have been ruled out.
“Castro performs well every time he plays. He is recovering physically and we all believe in his abilities because he has a lot of qualities,” Gasperini said.
“It’s normal for a team to be made up of many players and maybe we have fewer options compared to other teams. I’m happy with all six players and now Lorenzo Pellegrini is back in training with the team.”
“Hopefully we always have a full squad to choose from because modern football gives everyone space and time at different moments.”
Mullen made his Roma debut at Turin’s Stadio Olimpico in January 2026, and has built a remarkable record with 19 goals in 22 Serie A games.
