Former Australian sprint champion Jake Doran is accused of child abuse Athletics

Australia’s 2022 men’s 100m champion has been arrested in Townsville on child abuse charges.

Queensland police arrested Jake Doran on October 13 and charged him with one count of “indecency with a child under 16 (obscene film, etc.)”. Police investigations covered the period from January 2025 to September 2026.

The 26-year-old has been bailed to appear at Townsville Magistrates’ Court on November 5.

Doran, who works in business development in Tafe Queensland, trained athletes in Townsville.

Athletics Australia confirmed he had no paid or unpaid role with the national governing body, but banned him from any involvement in the sport while the matter was pending.

“Based on information provided to Athletics Australia, the organization has taken interim action against the athlete, banning him from joining the club, member association or Athletics Australia events, as well as participating in athletics training,” the spokesperson said.

“The safety and well-being of all participants in our sport is paramount and we take all allegations of this nature very seriously.”

Doran has deleted his Instagram account and his profile no longer appears on the Athletics Australia website.

Queensland Athletics declined to comment.

The sprinter won the 100 meters at the 2022 Australian national championships, beating current Australian Eddie Nketiah in a wind-assisted time of 10.05 seconds.

Doran went on to compete for Australia at the world championships and Commonwealth Games and also won the national 200m title in 2023.

However, he failed to live up to his early promise and has not run faster than 10.39 seconds in the 100 meters since 2023.

Queensland Police said investigations are ongoing.

Doran has been contacted for comment.
