Bukayo Saka reacts to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal injury concerns

Mikel Arteta admits there is “concern” at Arsenal over the severity of Bukayo Saka’s injury.

Winger Declan Rice was sent off in the first 10 minutes of the Gunners’ 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich for a late tackle at the Allianz Arena.

Arteta said following his side’s 82nd-minute performance: “They are a bit worried. A player who has to come on in really bad pain is never good news, but we will have to wait and see.

“The level of intensity this game requires is also incredible. You can see that in PSG v Barcelona last night.

“It’s man-to-man for 96 minutes, every move, breathless, the stress, the quality, the intensity, the level you need is incredible.

“It’s the highest level and unfortunately things like this happen.”

Overall, Arteta was pleased with Arsenal’s front-foot approach, adding: “We get a draw, it doesn’t mean we’re going to win the game.

“You can see the mentality, the aim and the intention of the team from the start is to be very dominant, to come here and cause problems for Bayern, to press them and attack them, and of course we did that. I think in the first 25 minutes we were the better team, we held the ball, unfortunately Bukayo’s injury was big.”

Meanwhile, match-saving hero Rice claims man-of-the-match Harry Kane deserves the Ballon d’Or.

Rice said: “He’s obviously a winner. His numbers speak for themselves, he’s had a remarkable year.

“When you play with him, you realize how good he is, and when you play against him, you see how painful it is.

“He’s ridiculous, such a good player and I’m lucky to play with him, not so lucky to play against him.”
