Records tumble at Prem
Manchester City set a new high-scoring record with 100 points, and it wasn’t the only record set in England on the final day of the Premier League season. Manchester City also set a record for the fewest minutes behind in a Premier League season. In the 2017/18 season, they trailed their opponents for only 153 minutes. Wenger’s victory at Huddersfield set a new Premier League record, his 48th win at different stadiums in the Premier League, more than Ferguson’s 47. Liverpool set a record by remaining unbeaten at home for the seventh time in the top flight, creating a top-flight all-time record. Mohamed Salah also set a new top-flight season record of 38 games, scoring his 32nd goal against Brighton on the final day.
Poch hints at big money needed
Tottenham finished third in the Premier League after beating Leicester City 5-4 on the final day, but it’s been a long time since their last trophy – the 2008 League Cup. Mauricio Pochettino has now suggested that the club needs to loosen its purse strings if it is to progress, saying: “If we want to be real contenders for important trophies, we need to do some reviews. First of all, I need to talk to Daniel and then we will know what we are going to do. “I think this is the moment when the club needs to take risks and, if possible, work harder than last season and I can be competitive again. I think I’m going to be competitive again. What do we need to do; I don’t know if the club will agree with me, but we’ll talk next week about how to create a new program or what I think we need to do to try to improve, and of course it’s up to Daniel because after four years I think we need to evaluate that period, but you know me, sometimes in this situation, I have some crazy ideas for our club.
Ekabi keen on Villarreal transfer
Angers striker Carl Toko Ekabi has confirmed his interest in moving to Villarreal after being asked by RMC about their offer for him. Aikabi told them: “Of course, I am interested in this club because it is a club that will play in Europe, a family club. Like several other clubs, this is a club that interests me.”
Allegri to stay at Juventus
Massimiliano Allegri told reporters he will stay at Juventus next season unless they sack him after Juventus won a seventh consecutive Serie A title and handed Allegri a fourth consecutive double. Despite being linked with jobs at Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain in recent months, Allegri told reporters: “If they don’t sack me, I will stay at Juventus next year.”
Yunuzovic heads to Salzburg
Werder Bremen midfielder Zlako Junuzovic is set to return to the Austrian Bundesliga. It had been known for some time that he would be leaving Werder, but he only revealed his destination to Red Bull Salzburg after his final game for the green-and-whites. He started his career in the Austrian league.
