European Curling Championships 2026: Scotland men and women secure opening victories

Scotland’s men emulated their female counterparts by opening the European Curling Championships with victory.

Grant Hardy’s side won 8-4 in Ostrava, Czech Republic and face Belgium on Wednesday.

The men scored two in the bottom of the opener and three in the third to take a 5-1 lead. The Netherlands trailed 6-4 after six ends, but Scotland got two more in the seventh to see out the win.

Fay Henderson’s Scotland women opened the campaign with a comprehensive 12-3 win over Denmark.

The Danes led by a single point at either end before halving the deficit.

However, the Scots took control of the opener, leading by five points by the end of the fourth end.

Denmark scored two points in the fifth, but in the sixth and final, Scotland closed out the contest decisively with a six-point margin.

Turkey is next in Henderson’s field.
