Roberto De Zerbi apologized to fans as Tottenham Hotspur drew 0-0 with Everton after four games without a win and a goal.
It’s an unwelcome record for Spurs, who have failed to score in their first four league games of a season for the first time. They haven’t gone four consecutive league games without scoring a goal since 2006.
Roberto De Zerbi says his side are still not in top “physical condition” after the World Cup and are struggling to build confidence.

Extended Highlights:
De Zerbi told Tottenham: “We regret this result. We are sorry because our goal was to play 90 minutes like the first 30 minutes, but we were not in the best physical condition yet.
“Then we didn’t shoot, we didn’t create enough chances to improve the quality of the game, our command of the game. We could have shot more. We made a lot of bad decisions in the final third and I think we have to stay more focused, be more clinical and improve where we have gaps.
“Now it’s confidence because we didn’t score. Maybe some players will think in a negative way, but I don’t think so because we have to focus on the performance and the performance showed that we played 30 minutes very well. We have to extend 30 minutes in 90, 80, 70 and play like this. Then, if we keep the same quality of play, if we improve the final decisions, individual decisions, collective decisions but win more individual games.
De Zerbi’s full-time communication phone number with Mathys:
“I coached him on the pitch. Physical shape: He’s a striker; a striker can’t put his shoulder against the goal.”
“If we play with (James) Maddison, (Mohammed) Kudus and Savio, he has to play as a striker and the striker has to look at the goal or (Andy) Robertson’s cross. He has to stay inside.
“He started as a striker and now he plays as a winger, but he started his career as a striker.
“But I love Mattis as a player, as a person; that’s not a problem.”

Everton manager David Moyes said: sky sports:
“I expected more from the team, but I told them what came here.
“We don’t have a great record here. Just a few months ago we missed out on Europe here. I generally feel we have to show more here.
“Tottenham played very well in these 20 minutes. They put a lot of pressure on us. We found it difficult to get away from that pressure. We created a few chances ourselves but today we didn’t play well enough in possession.
“We know exactly where we are lacking, what we can do better and what we want to do better. But there are games where we might have to play like this to get through it. That was not the plan, we were forced by Tottenham. I think we did a really good job of being resilient.”
0 goals in 4 games this is an absolute joke how can we look like we are not scoring goals this is so frustrating my head is fried with this team

Here’s how social media reacted after De Zerbi apologized to fans, with Tottenham Hotspur winless and scoreless after four games…
@spursexpress: Financial Times: 0-0. #Tottenham Hotspur have kept two clean sheets in a row, but their performance has been poor again. #Spurs have not scored in over 400 #PL minutes and have just 2 points from 4 games to start the season.
@Fairway180: Fans started booing again. Completely classless. Yes, you’re spending money to have fun, but you should ultimately become a supporter. The definition of support is not doing the opposite and booing the team. Follow them. #COYS #THFC
@MAILItalia1882: Hi guys, I’m not sure if you know this, but football is all about getting the ball into the back of the net. In fact, it is impossible to win without it. Hope it helps π
@Mac__James: So fucking embarrassing. Once again the manager and every attacker on the pitch were in shambles. every week is sad
@HardSpursPics: Wow! Who cursed us humans?
@FredOdor: Different week, same Tottenham Hotspur
@george_coys: Not good enough. This style of play has to change or we will never score
@David6914626764: Four games, spent 340 million, without victory or a single goal. Angry or something πππππ
@simoncambridge: Similar to last week, the team’s attack was good, but we didn’t create enough opportunities for Solanke or Mamouch. You have to create chances to score and we didn’t do enough. Surprised Ben Thakur and Fernandes came off.
@andybagguley: The team is not performing well. What are they doing with so many people training?
@JustGetSpursed: I’m actually worried about some of the comments saying “we didn’t play well”, are you watching the same game or are you acting like one of the Spurs influencers.
