Cole Palmer was sent off in Chelsea’s defeat to Tottenham and the England international has now issued an apology on social media.
Chelsea star Cole Palmer issued a 12-word apology after receiving a red card in their 2-0 loss to Tottenham.
Palmer had already been booked for a tackle on Mateus Fernandes with 10 minutes remaining when he was sent off by referee Chris Kavanagh for delaying Conor Gallagher. It means the 24-year-old will miss Wednesday’s Carabao Cup game against Liverpool.
Palmer took to Instagram on Sunday to apologize. He said: “Not good enough on my part. Live and learn! Sorry. Next time.”
Tottenham recorded only their second win over Chelsea in the Premier League era on Saturday thanks to an own goal from Mike Penders and a sensational solo effort from Mathys Tel. Roberto De Zerbi’s side arrived in west London with rivals Chelsea having won just one of their last 41 trips to SW6, but changed history with a 2-0 win against Xabi Alonso’s 10 men.

Alonso was asked after the game whether the red card was a lesson. The Spaniard said: “Yes, of course I haven’t seen them on TV, but I’ve been told that he probably gets it right, so for Cole, but for everyone.
“We think [up until] now we haven’t got any red cards and we have to keep going because in difficult moments, when you concede 1-0, there was still probably 15-20 minutes left, so we should be on our way. I’ll have to check the moves to talk to Cole, but it’s definitely worth studying for the future.”
On the defeat, Alonso added: “Well, about the game, of course we were disappointed with the result, the performance. We talked at half-time, I felt it was going to be about the first goal, the second half was tight, half-chances from them, some half-chances from us, it was going to be the highlight and after conceding the first goal, we changed everything.
“Almost when we wanted to react we got a straight red card and it went the other way and we can probably do better, so in this big game we need to reflect that he is a good opponent, we need to improve the performance.”
