Fulham crashed out of the Carabao Cup at Craven Cottage on Wednesday 28 October 2026, losing 1-0 to Crystal Palace with a 37th-minute goal from Eddie Nketiah. Calvin Bassey started in the back four. Nights like this bring supporters back to the familiar question of the Super Eagles defender. What does he actually earn? No one but Fulham and its representatives can say.

Two guesses, no official numbers
Fulham don’t publish wages and neither does Bassey. Everything here is an outside guess. Nothing more.
Afrik-Foot reported on 19 August 2026 that he earns around £45,000 a week, around £2.34m a year before bonuses. This came from Capology’s Fulham data. The publication noted that this is not official. On that basis, he is 15th on the wage list, well behind Alex Iwobi on around £80,000-a-week.
SalarySport is on the rise. It shows £62,000 a week, or £3,224,000 a year, and does not explain its method.
The two figures sit £17,000 a week apart. Neither is fact.
Treat both carefully.
A fair read is that the Premier League regular of his profile earns in the seven-figure annual bracket, and the honest report stops there. We omitted the Naira equivalents as the conversion would only add false precision to the estimates.
Contract, payment and road 2027
Bassey moved from Ajax to Fulham on July 28, 2023.
It was a four-year contract. Afrik-Foot put the fee at €22.5 million, while Wikipedia puts it at €21 million, so call instead to confirm.
Afrik-Foot wrote on October 23, 2026 that the contract will last until June 30, 2027. Fulham can extend him by one year, an option which was previously put on June 29, 2028. The same selling point is called Inter Milan, Fenerbahce and Brighton. Free agent next summer? Maybe. He presented them as speculation, and so do we. Fulham are also said to be interested in offering a longer contract. He has been free to talk to foreign clubs since January, meaning the winter window and any offers Fulham put on the table before then will shape where he plays.
Net worth: Why we won’t guess
Net worth is still difficult. We have not found a reliable published figure for Bassey. Resume sites that print a round number rarely work, and we haven’t replicated them.
The only figure with any method behind it is SalarySport’s estimate of his career wages, around £10.3m. This only calculates salary before tax, agent fees, image rights and endorsements, so not net worth. The gap is wide. Quoting an exact fortune for a player in an undisclosed deal is anyone’s guess, and readers deserve better than a round number dressed up as research and passed around from site to site.

Family and background
Bassey, 26, was born in Aosta to Nigerian parents and grew up in Newham. He joined Leicester City’s youth system at the age of 15. Next came Rangers, where he won the Scottish Premiership in 2020–21 and the Scottish Cup in 2021–22. It also reached the final of the Europa League in 2022.
He talked about his mother. Ahead of his first call-up to Nigeria in October 2021, he said: “My mother played a big role in my decision to play for Nigeria.” He added that it was his wish.
Besides, he keeps his personal life out of the headlines and we didn’t go looking any further.
He said less.
Where he was with the Eagles
He made his debut for Nigeria on 25 March 2022 in a World Cup qualifier against Ghana without scoring. He was in the side that beat Ivory Coast 2-1 in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final. In the 2025 tournament in Morocco, Nigeria beat Egypt on penalties to finish third. He made CAF’s best XI.
His season at Fulham was uneventful. He was the club’s Player of the Season in 2024-25, then found himself on the bench after returning from the Nations Cup. Vanguard reported in February that Marco Silva was up to the competition: “It’s a competition and Cuenca knows it’s a competition.”
This is important for Nigeria as it is difficult to replace a defender who is comfortable on the left wing or in the centre, so his contract is being watched closely. Our guide to Nigerian players in the Premier League tracks where he’s stood this season, and our Moses Simon profile shows how another Eagle’s earnings have been reported.
