Five months after his last Club America goal, Alex Zendejas enjoyed the feeling once again.
Zendejas had a goal and an assist in Wednesday’s 5-2 Liga MX win over Atlas. It marked the 28-year-old’s first goal contribution since May 10 as Club America stayed top of the Apertura table.
Club America struck twice in the first 30 minutes, with Miguel Borja and Erick Sanchez both taking a 2-0 halftime lead.
Zendejas acted as distributor for the visitors’ third goal of the game, beating Brian Rodriguez just before the hour mark for a 3-0 lead.
Zendejas scored his first goal of the new campaign five minutes after helping Club America extend their lead. Zendejas pounced on the loose ball before hitting the roof of the net.
Late consolations from Luis Esteves and Ryan Mmaee cut Atlas’ deficit to 4-2 with 12 minutes remaining, but Kevin Alvarez added an insurance goal for Club America on the ensuing kickoff.
Zendejas played 68 minutes in the match and created three chances, won five duels and drew two fouls. It was his best performance of the campaign as Club America continued to challenge for another league title.
Next up for Zendejas and his Club America teammates is a home date with Pachuca on Sunday.
