A Familiar Brown Face Is Back in Practice on Wednesday

It’s still hard to believe that the Cleveland Browns could pull off a 3-1 win over the New York Jets in Week 5. The victory would cap the team’s longest winning streak since 1986, which was the last time the Browns had won five in a row.

All things considered, the Browns are relatively healthy heading into Week 5. They lost Mason Graham mid-year in Week 4, but he thankfully avoided a major injury and should avoid IR.

During Wednesday’s practice, another recently injured player gave fans some good news when quarterback Dillon Gabriel appeared on the field. 92.3 Fan shared a clip of Gabriel in full pads going through drills and throwing some throws now that he’s officially set to return from IR and his 21-day training window has officially opened.

Gabriel’s impending return creates a bit of a logjam in the quarterback room. Many doubters expected Deshaun Watson to crash and burn through the first few weeks, but the opposite has happened and he’s finally starting to look like a franchise quarterback again. His success forces the team to make a difficult decision, as it could force either Gabriel or Shedeur Sanders out of town.

Rookie sixth-rounder Taylen Green has been impressive in the preseason and likely won’t go anywhere as head coach Todd Monken’s personal development project. Watson’s starting job is as secure as ever, so the other QB spot could be a tough decision between Sanders and Gabriel.

However, that’s a conversation for another day and it’s great to see Gabriel back on the pads. He’s shown some flashes in camp that have fans excited about his potential improvement, and he’s looked solid in the preseason.

Has he shown enough to earn the backup job behind Watson? Only time will tell.
