Barcelona midfielder Rodri has revealed he called Mourinho after deciding to reject Real Madrid and join them in El Clasico in August.

Real Madrid are also interested in signing the 30-year-old, who held talks with Mourinho and Barcelona manager Hansi Flick before making a decision.
Rodri admitted the choice was difficult, especially given the way Real Madrid handled their interest.
“I had to analyze a lot of things and make big decisions between the two best clubs in the world,” Rodri told world sports news.
“In the end, I was coached by the sport, coached by what excites me more and chose the areas where I felt I could win and grow the most as a player.
“It was not easy at all. It was not easy to say no to Madrid, especially when their behavior towards me was exemplary. In the end, Deco and Hansi convinced me.”

Rodri explained that Mourinho made it clear how much he wanted him to move to the Bernabeu and outlined the role he could play in the team.
The midfielder chose not to reveal details of their private conversations but confirmed he contacted the Portuguese coach after agreeing to join Barcelona.
“I don’t want to reveal private conversations, but obviously he expressed his desire for me to go there and explained what he thought I would bring to the team,” Rodri said.
“He was very good to me. When I made my decision, I called him to thank him for his interest in me and his attitude towards me.
“He is a great coach and he has proven that over the years and Real Madrid will be a strong opponent in the league this season.”
