“Manchester City” midfielder Enzo Fernandes wants to return to his first club “River Plate” before finishing his career.
The Argentina international has only moved to the Etihad Chelsea In early September, however, he expressed his desire to return and play in Buenos Aires:
“I want to go back to River someday; I’ve said it a few times. I’m going to come back; I’m sure of it. It’s something I really want. I stand by my words and what I say.”
“If I say it, it’s because I feel it and because I know that I have to come back to enjoy the world of River Plate for many more years than what I’ve won. Today I’m here with a long contract with Manchester City. There’s still a long way to go, but it’s going to happen.”
Fernandez played 53 major league games for River Plate
The midfielder won the league title with the Argentine club in 2021, although it was during the Covid pandemic.
For that reason, you can understand why he wants to get back and perform in front of his home crowd before his career is over. As he points out, this could be a “long way” in the future.

Man City fans will be hoping for a long career for him at the Etihad
Fernandez scored 1 goal and 1 assist in 11 games in Manchester. Considering he managed 15 goals and 7 assists for Chelsea last season, it doesn’t look like he will be as productive in front of goal for his new team.
Of course, the 25-year-old plays a slightly deeper role and it may take time for him to adapt to his new surroundings, but supporters will be hoping to see the best of his club record soon.
