Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany has been released from hospital after collapsing with meningeal irritation during training last week, sporting director Max Eberl said on Wednesday.
Kompany was taken to hospital last week after collapsing at Bayern Munich’s training ground during a second-team training session.
He missed Bayern’s media duties ahead of their Champions League game against Arsenal due to a viral infection, but made it to the dugout for the 2-2 draw.
“Considering the situation, he’s doing well,” Eberl told the broadcaster ARD Before the German Cup match against Magdeburg, who beat Bayern Munich 6-1. “He was discharged from the hospital today [Wednesday]. This is the biggest and best news for all of us.
“It’s the meningeal irritation that caused it on Friday. He’s going to rest and take medication now and I’m sure he’ll be back on the touchline at 100 per cent very soon.”
No date has been set for Kompany’s return, with Eberl saying the Belgian will resume duty only after receiving medical clearance, echoed by assistant Aaron Danks.
Speaking after the win over Magdeburg, he said: “I don’t feel there’s any timetable on it yet. [when Kompany is back]. This is a really positive step in his recovery.
“He needs to go back to his home now, closer to his family, closer to the comforts of home, but it’s still very important that he rests and recovers. So there’s no timetable on that. I haven’t been told anything and I’ve been informed.
“Our doctors will continue to work closely with Vince and when the time is right, he will be with us once he is fit and healthy to do so and we look forward to that day.
“But in the meantime we continue to move forward as a group with the players and staff and continue to work hard.
“I haven’t spoken to him in a few days, so I don’t think much has changed in terms of our working relationship right now.
“His health is our number one priority and for us he’s still in recovery mode so we want him to get back to full health, full fitness and then join us.
“In the coming days, weeks, I don’t know, things will start moving forward and we can start having more of these conversations.
“But there’s no time frame on that right now. It’s just about his health and recovery and taking the time he needs.”
Danks led the team and was on the bench as they won 3-1 at Freiburg at the weekend. Bundesliga leader “Bayern” will face championship rival “Borussia Dortmund” on Saturday.
