WSL Power Rankings: Manchester City remain top, Chelsea bounce back, Manchester United slip

The Barclays Women’s Super League has officially begun and the 2026-27 season is already full of breakthrough performances. There’s a whole season ahead of any shocking results or underdog stories, so that means it’s time to roll out the power rankings.

After each game week, teams will be ranked based on overall performance or underperformance. Maybe Chelsea Football Club is exactly what we thought it was, a team more than capable of conceding five goals to their opponents and Manchester United’s If so, perhaps the gap between them and their competitors is much wider than ever before.

The latest rankings provide the opportunity to comment on Week 3 results, breakout performances and questions. Be sure to check back as the season progresses and stay up to date with all the games on the CBS Sports platform. If you want to keep up with all the changes, be sure to check out My previous strength ranking.

CBS Sports is home to the Barclays Women’s Premier League, where fans can watch all the latest action. Paramount+ All 183 games per season will be broadcast live, the highest number of games offered in the competition’s newly expanded format. One additional game will be televised each week on CBS Sports Network, with select events also airing on the CBS Sports Golazo Network.

Now let’s look at the latest rankings:

1. Manchester City (–)

As if City weren’t already looking like an unstoppable defending champion, the attacking duo of Mary Fowler and Khadija “Rabbit” Shaw are showing no signs of slowing down any time soon.

2. Chelsea Football Club (+1)

If you didn’t get the memo, Lucy Bronze is definitely a threat. The veteran turned in a huge rebound performance, leading the team in touches (120) and getting on the scoreboard in the blowout win.

3. arsenal (-1)

Gunners head coach Renee Slagers said it best: “One point is not enough for us” after a scoreless game at the Emirates Stadium. She was right, considering Arsenal had a poor showing with 30 shots and three on target despite the chaos in front of the goal.

4. Tottenham Hotspur (+1)

Even if you don’t win the honours, you have to create and thankfully Tottenham now have Signe Gopset to do that. Effort is required, both with and without the ball, and this will be the way the team needs to maintain its game throughout the long season.

5. liverpool (+2)

Nagano Kazuka may be one of Liverpool’s most underrated players this season. Intelligent ball-handling and insight into the sequence of one or two moves ahead and the ability to start and break up attacks.

6. London City Lioness(-2)

Danielle van der Donk quickly became the most important player in the star-studded lineup. Perhaps City were under too much pressure to achieve this early in the season, but that was not the case. You can’t have so much talent on the roster and have the other team perform better than you.

7. everton (+2)

First win of the season without a single shot on target? This is what I call football. In one particular, or strange, moment, Holly McNamara’s forced own goal produced just that.

8. Manchester United (-2)

There have been heavy losses and downright serious losses, and United will have to make some adjustments quickly to recover from the roller-coaster decline at the start of the season.

9. Brighton & Hove Albion (-1)

Expect to see Sekesko bring more good things to Brighton, but the team will need to manage games against newly promoted teams better.

10. crystal palace (+1)

Who doesn’t love a loser who punches above his weight? Crystal Palace did exactly this at the start of the new season. Even if they were not a threat in front of the goal, they were a threat in position and have become a pest to the team.

11. west ham united (+1)

Momentum and the end of a tough result were important and Vivian Assai converted it into the winning goal. A stellar performance from coach Rita Guarino and the team put them in the dust last week.

12. aston villa (-2)

Power rankings are about change, and Aston Villa are a clear example of how quickly peaks and valleys can come. Amalie Vangsgaard put in a glorious effort at the weekend, but it gets more difficult from here.

13. Birmingham(–)

Another weekend where Oisin Hurt showed off her offensive talents in the league, but it was also another rude welcome to the league. There’s no clearer example of how quickly a lead can evaporate in the major leagues when you start with a two-goal lead but can’t equalize in stoppage time.

14. Charlton Athletic(–)

If you can’t score, why not go out and get some red cards? Congratulations to Charlton Athletic for losing not one, but two players next week.
