Cole Palmer picked up a red card against Spurs last weekend and it ruined Chelsea’s hopes of a comeback in this game.

It was a silly few minutes from the forward, who on both occasions showed real nervousness and lack of discipline.

“Yes, we talked about the game, about what we can develop for itself, but that’s what we always do,” Alonso said.

“I don’t know how many red cards he got. Is this the first? I mean, we don’t want that to happen again. For him, he’s the first. [to understand he made a mistake]. So we talked more about football, about what we need, because Cole is smart, he loves the game, he loves to enjoy it, and that’s the main thing we talk about.”

Palmer will be needed more than ever tomorrow as the team is now missing several key starters. Joao Pedro is missing in attack, others need to score more goals. This includes Cole. This is the perfect chance to make up for his misdeeds.

In other news…

Maxence Lacroix will not be involved in tomorrow’s game or another game for around a month after confirming Alonso’s injury.

Amy Martinez is racing to get fit as soon as possible after breaking her jaw – but she won’t be ready for tomorrow.

Xabi Alonso’s statements about the importance of the Carabao Cup were not received unambiguously by “Chelsea” fans.
