The Washington Spirit suffered another midfield injury.

Hal Hershfelt has been placed with the team, the club announced Thursday Women’s National Soccer League End of Season Injury List. The deployment comes after Hershfelt suffered an ACL injury in Washington’s Oct. 25 game against the Kansas City Stream.

“Hershfelt will undergo surgery to repair his ACL and will work with the Spirit’s medical and performance staff during his rehabilitation,” the team said in a press release.

Hershfelt has been a member of the Washington Spirit since 2024. Since then, he has started 66 games in 72 regular season games. He helped Washington win the 2025 NWSL Challenge Cup and back-to-back NWSL Championship appearances.

Clemson graduate named NWSL Second Best XI in 2024.

Hershfelt will finish the 2026 season with 31 appearances in all competitions for the Spirit.
