Tyquan Thornton injury: Chiefs WR could return late this season after getting his return chart

Update October 5th: Tyquan Thornton’s season isn’t over yet. The Chiefs wide receiver will undergo surgery this week and the team hopes he can return for the playoffs or even the end of the regular season. According to insider Ian Rapoport, Thornton is looking at a 12- to 16-week return timeline. The Chiefs have a bye next week, then 13 more games before the playoffs begin. They are one of three teams currently 4-0 in the league and the only undefeated team in the AFC. If the Chiefs can earn a first-round bye, don’t be surprised if Thornton returns for their playoff opener.

Refresh after the game: Thornton dislocated his ankle in the game, the team announced. He is out indefinitely.

Tyquan Thornton made the biggest play of the game for the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4 against the Las Vegas Raiders, but unfortunately it ended with a gruesome injury that sidelined the wide receiver. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes found Thornton for two points on a deep route late in the game against the Raiders, but fell after leaping to record a 55-yard reception. As Thornton lay on the turf, players from both sides looked worried until a trolley arrived to take him to the dressing room.

The Chiefs would punch him for the promotion by Kenneth Walker a few games later. It must be very difficult to watch your teammate go down and immediately move on to the next game. The Chiefs scored again late in the fourth quarter with another touchdown run by Walker to take control of the game.

Thornton had five catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns when he was injured. Thornton actually had a breakout game only to suffer a devastating injury after the biggest catch of his career.

Here’s a video of Thornton’s removal from the field:

Let’s hope Thornton survives.

We’ll update this story as it develops.
