Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Cruzeiro goalkeeper Otavio as they assess potential reinforcements between the posts ahead of the upcoming transfer windows.
according to Fussball News reports Spurs are among Premier League clubs keeping a close eye on the Brazilian youngster, who has since attracted the attention of several European sides. Impressive performances in South America.
Otavio could be an interesting addition for Tottenham
The 20-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable rise at Cruzeiro, becoming a first-team regular after taking advantage of an injury to experienced goalkeeper Cassio.
His performances in the Copa Libertadores and senior domestic matches have impressed scouts with his reflexes, composure and distribution, making him an attractive prospect for European clubs.
Tottenham could see Otavio as a potential long-term investment given their goalkeeper options. His ability to make crucial saves and contribute to development will suit the demands of modern football and potentially give Spurs another option for the future.
Nottingham Forest are also chasing him to sign the goalkeeper after a failed summer bid. Porto, Napoli and Borussia Dortmund are also reportedly monitoring his development and increasing competition for his signature.
“Tottenham” faced difficult negotiations for Otavio
However, convincing Cruzeiro to sanction his departure will not be easy. The Brazilian club rejected a reported €13 million bid from Nottingham Forest and later strengthened their negotiating position by extending Otavio’s contract until 2031.
His new contract has a €100 million release clause for foreign clubs, although Cruzeiro are in talks to demand an initial fee of between €25 million and €30 million.
The Brazilian side are reluctant to lose their promising goalkeeper in the middle of the season, meaning interested clubs may have to offer an attractive financial package to make a move.
Therefore, Tottenham will have to assess whether the youngster represents the right investment. Several European clubs are monitoring his progress, while Spurs could face a competitive transfer battle should they decide to make their interest official.
A move to England could present an exciting opportunity for Otavio, but Cruzeiro’s firm stance suggests negotiations will be difficult.
