Tottenham end their Stamford Bridge drought as Chelsea score an own goal and Palmer is sent off

Chelsea had a nightmare evening at Stamford Bridge as Cole Palmer collapsed in a disastrous second half against Tottenham.

Chelsea’s evening turned into an absolute nightmare midway through the second half after a devastating foul between the posts.

Back-up goalkeeper Mike Penders, who had already endured a lackluster performance in international play, had a disastrous moment under the lights of Stamford Bridge.

Attempting to take a high, spinning corner into the penalty area, Penders completely misjudged the flight of the ball and horribly hit it straight into his own net.

A painful own goal gave Tottenham an important lead late in the game.

Chelsea’s second-half collapse began with a disastrous mistake by Penders.

The young Belgian goalkeeper, who replaced the injured Emiliano Martinez, had difficulty in distribution in the opening period.

However, his most expensive moment came when he attempted to take a dangerous corner.

Instead of clearing the ball out of danger, Penders completely misjudged its flight and blasted it straight into his own net.

A freak mistake gave Tottenham the lead and stunned the Stamford Bridge crowd.

Before the hosts could recover from the failure of the goal, disaster struck again.

Talisman Cole Palmer, already on a yellow card, has, as Gary Neville described it, ‘lost his head’.

A late challenge saw him leave his footing on Gallagher, resulting in a second booking and subsequent red card, reducing Chelsea to ten men and completely scuppering their chances of a comeback.

Mathys Tel seals win that ends Spurs’ Stamford Bridge drought

Taking advantage of their numerical advantage and Chelsea’s structural collapse, Tottenham quickly put the match completely out of reach.

Striker Mathys Tel beat several Chelsea defenders before taking advantage of the extra man with a solo goal to curl a shot from the edge of the box that beat Penders at the near post.

The final whistle confirmed the big result for the visitors, who claimed only their second win of the season.

The result also marked Tottenham’s first Premier League win at Stamford Bridge since beating Chelsea 3–1 on 1 April 2018.

For Chelsea, it caps off a disastrous derby performance where they were second behind Spurs for most of the game.
