Swansea beat Burnley 3-1 to advance to second place

Vitor Matos’ Swansea City moved into second place with a 3-1 win, while Nicky Hayen’s Burnley remain bottom of the Championship.

Swansea led 2-0 in the 33rd minute with goals from Adam Idah (13′) and Moussa Kounfolo Yeo (33′), Largie Ramazani pulled a goal back for Burnley midway through the second half, but it was only a consolation Porter goal, with Zan Vipotnik adding three points with 20 minutes remaining.

For the Clarets, it was their fourth defeat in their first seven league games and are still seeking their first league win.

Burnley coach Nicky Hayne said after the game burnley express: “Of course Swansea won the game today but we lost it in the first half.

“We actually started pretty well. I thought we were equal. We created a lot of chances in the first half, but you made two personal mistakes in the first half that left you 2-0 down.”

“Then you make your life very difficult because to win you first have to make no mistakes in the game and that’s already difficult.

“For me, that was the biggest difference in today’s game. They were much more accurate with the ball than we were. They didn’t give away simple balls like we sometimes did and were able to take advantage of their chances effectively, that’s all.”

“It was a good game for us, very complete in different phases. We had very good moments when we had the ball, important moments that gave us the initiative and control in the right positions.

“That allowed us to push Burnley back and go deep.

“Nothing has changed for us. The most important thing is that we continue to focus on the process, focus on where we can improve, when we need to improve, and then focus on the game.

“Then the results will speak for themselves. We need to keep improving our game and our individual level.”
