Man City are interested in Brentford defender Michael Kayode.

City have been on the lookout for a new right-back for some time and during the summer transfer window they were interested in Chelsea’s Malo Gusto.

However, the French international’s £70million price tag is said to have put them off making a move and the club appear to have identified a suitable alternative.

TEAMtalk coach Enzo Maresca claims he has “massive” admiration for Kayode and will be behind bringing the Italian international to the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City will face fierce competition for the defender

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are all believed to have tracked Kayode and scouted him regularly last season.

City currently appear to be the most active interest, but Brentford are unlikely to sanction the 22-year-old’s departure for a low fee.

The Bees paid €17.5 million to secure Kayode’s services on a permanent basis in May last year after a successful six-month loan spell at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Reports suggest the right-back will cost double that amount after signing a new deal in July. His price could be 40-50 million pounds.

Will Premier League FFP ruling affect Kayode’s transfer?

Currently there is City going through the appeals processand it seems that the club’s recruitment team is business as usual until a final decision is made.

Of course, if Maresca’s side receive a transfer ban or, in the worst-case scenario, relegation, it will affect any attempt to sign Kayode in the future. For now, the club is interested in the Italian.
