Preview of the Premier League match “Fulham” – “Newcastle United”.

Welcome to Fulham v Newcastle United.

Saturday, November 7 and kick off at 3:00 p.m.

Newcastle United travel to London this weekend looking to put an end to a disastrous double defeat in the League and Cup, which has the potential to derail our season before it really starts.

The Toon will be hoping to get their season back on track after a grueling international break before resuming a series or break run that could very well define the campaign.

Although this will be our thirteenth match of the 2026-27 season, it will be only our second game of the season not selected for live TV. This means we can enjoy the comparative luxury of a 3pm kick-off on Saturday and the traveling Toon fans should have plenty of time to enjoy before and after the match…fingers crossed they’ll enjoy the actual match too!

form

Newcastle have won two and lost four of their last six league games as a decent start to the season has alarmingly disintegrated. Victories came against Hull City and Crystal Palace, but horrendous defeats against four regular teams in the form of Leeds, Coventry, Villa and Everton saw the Toon drop a very attainable twelve points. We scored six goals in those six matches but conceded a whopping eleven and kept just one clean sheet. The six points we’ve earned leaves us in thirteenth place, but a mid-table finish suggests we could be in the top seven this weekend if all results go our way.

Fulham have won two, drawn three and lost one of their last six league games. They have won against Coventry and Hull while drawing with Liverpool, Manchester United and Aston Villa. Their loss was at Ipswich. They scored 5 goals and conceded 4 in these games. Despite a terrible start to the season, where they have picked up just two points from their first six matches, they are currently in fifteenth place in the league. A win at the weekend would see them leapfrog the Toon and could see them up to eighth depending on results elsewhere.

Last time

Newcastle hosted Everton on Monday night and were left disappointed with a second defeat to the Toffees in just five days. The first half was a complete non-event, with United looking and playing like the away team, barely getting out of their own half let alone troubling old foe Jordan Pickford. We were lucky to go into the break goalless but the Blues left Too desperate for a goal early in the second half. When the black and whites finally woke up, Elanga looked to have equalized when he slotted the ball past Pickford at the back post. Unfortunately, he backtracked from the upright, spun on the line and was hacked to safety. Newcastle continued to push to level but only really created a few decent chances, Vissa had a shot saved and Ramsey had an effort. Unfortunately, Ramsey also had time to pick up two identically ridiculous yellow cards late on to ensure he received a red card and now has to serve a suspension to cap off a miserable night for NUFC.

Fulham traveled to Aston Villa last weekend and were certainly grateful for a goalkeeping howl after they were held to a 1-1 draw. Behind at half-time, Fulham grabbed an equalizer in the second half when Villa’s keeper chipped the ball over the line to ensure both sides could enjoy a share of the points.

State attack!

“Newcastle” played three games in London this season and won all of them without conceding a goal.

The Toon have lost their last two trips to Fulham.

NUFC have scored fourteen goals in their last seven games at Craven Cottage.

A match to remember

In 2003-04, Sir Bobby Robson was once again trying to plot a return to the Champions League for a United side who had made a difficult start to the season. A visit to Fulham in October gave the Toon a third consecutive win, but things got off to a disastrous start when old boys Lee Clarke and Louis Saha both found the net early on to give Fulham a two-goal lead after just eight minutes. Thankfully, that double setback spurred United into life and they gained a toe in the match when Laurent Robert scored with a half-volley shortly after. NUFC saved the real drama and excitement for the start of the second half when Alan Shearer found the net twice in front of an incredible away crowd. Our number nine Ameobi held his nerve to bury a spot-kick that equalized after being fouled in the area, but there was better to come. Moments after the equaliser, excellent link-up play with Jermain Jenas gave Shearer the chance to put the Toon in front and he made no mistake, firing the ball into the roof of the net to send the traveling Toon Army into a frenzy. While it was certainly one of the highlights of the season, it was also our last away league win. Just two wins on our travels all campaign meant United missed out on a Champions League place. Fulham 2-3 Newcastle

He played for both

Philip Albert For those of us lucky enough to grow up in the mid-90s, it’s an absolute legend. Signed by Kevin Keegan after a string of impressive performances at the 1994 World Cup, Albert soon proved there was more to his game than just defending. Never afraid to bomb forward, he was often found at the other end of the pitch and scored a number of important goals. Although he is best remembered for his superb chip that ended the goal in a famous 5-0 win over Man United, my personal favorite memory is when he headed home with an equally special effort in the previous season’s 3-3 draw with Man City. Keegan was so impressed with Albert at Newcastle that he re-signed him for Fulham in 1998 and was rewarded with two goals as the Cottagers were promoted from the second tier.

Louis Saha In 1999, he played on loan at Newcastle under Ruud Gullit, but managed only a handful of games. His only league strike came against Coventry in a 4-1 home win. He also scored against Blackburn in the fifth round of the FA Cup. His winning goal set up a quarter-final tie with Everton as Toon progressed to the Wembley final. He signed for Fulham in 2000 and scored over fifty league goals for the club, top scorer in the 00/01 promotion campaign and was named in the PFA team of the year. He spent four years at Craven Cottage before moving to Man United.

Danny Guthrie He signed for the Toon in 2008 and spent four years on Tyneside, finishing in the Premier League’s top five in 2012 before being relegated in 2009. He was integral to our run in 2009-10, scoring five goals and providing thirteen assists as we won the Championship. He played on loan at Fulham in 2015 but failed to score in six league games.

Managers

Matthias Jaissle after the 1-0 home defeat to Everton: “They trained at a high level in preparation, but you couldn’t see it when the referee started the game. Long balls weren’t the plan, it’s important to say that. It wasn’t good enough and it wasn’t brave enough to cross the line. The goal came from an unforced error that led to a free kick, but we wanted to put them to bed early.” Free kick and we were surprised, of course we have to show unity.

Alvaro Arbeloa after the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa: “I’m happy with the team’s performance, especially in the second half. We were more aggressive, we controlled the pace of the game, we had a lot of chances to score some goals, but in the end we didn’t take our chances. I’m happy because before the match we knew how difficult it would be to win here. Manchester City lost here a week ago and they are my Champions League team. Because they showed ambition and character and we played our way, which is the most important thing. is something”.

Charity

As it is an away match, Newcastle United fans will not be gathering opposite the Gallowgate end for the food bank. However, you can still help and all online cash donations are greatly appreciated. For more information and/or to donate to the online food bank.

Forecast

This is a tough call. Newcastle have been very poor of late, while Fulham have had some good results after a poor start to the season. I’m old enough to remember the days when we didn’t win in London until a great night at Highbury in 2001 and I’m delighted to see us win three in the capital this season. Unfortunately, I don’t think you’ll see a fourth this weekend. A poor performance will see both teams settle for a point. Fulham 0:0 Newcastle
