Phil Jones is one of a group of former Premier League stars who have graduated from the PFA Business School with a Sports Director’s Diploma.
The former Manchester United defender retired last year aged 32 and received his diploma at a ceremony this week. Jones shared a photo on Instagram wearing a cap and gown, hinting at the next step in his career.
“Global Sports Director Course Completed @thepfabusiness,” he wrote. “As the journey continues, building on my coaching badges and current professional license…”
Former Manchester United and England team-mates including Antonio Valencia and Kyle Walker were quick to congratulate him, as well as Bennie McCarthy and Sam Allardyce, who made his first career breakthrough as manager at Blackburn Rovers.
Jones isn’t the only familiar name among the graduates.
Former Newcastle and Norwich goalkeeper Tim Krul and West Brom stalwart Kyle Bartley also received a Sports Director’s Diploma, while Premier League winner Danny Simpson completed a Diploma in Football Psychology, Emotional Intelligence and Leadership.
There are current stars too: Newcastle United’s Yoon Wiesa and five-time Premier League champion Ilkay Gundogan are the latest additions.
As for Jones, with United in deep crisis on and off the pitch, some fans will be wondering if a future return to the role at Old Trafford is imminent.
