Jayden Bogle doubled the lead moments later and added the finishing touch from Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s powerful header.
Calvert-Lewin then forced his way into the box and calmly scored Leeds’ third goal just before half-time.
Newcastle needed a big response after the break but Noah Okafor struck home with a superb finish to make it fourth and remove any doubts about the result.
Bazu Manature pulled a goal back for Newcastle in the final minute but it was little more than consolation on a miserable night.
Harvey Barnes was denied by James Trafford early on, while Matias Fernandez Pardo endured a difficult start, while the absence of the injured Anthony Elanga left Newcastle without a major counterattack threat.
Jessel admitted afterwards that his players were no match for Leeds physically and the manner of the defeat was particularly worrying.

Sucic understands the intensity expected from Jessel and could add more control and creativity to a midfield that is still adjusting after his summer departure.

For now, this remains a transfer possibility rather than a senior move. However, Newcastle’s humiliating defeat at Leeds showed why another proven midfielder could quickly move up their priorities.
