Mikel Arteta expressed concern over penalty incident and Bruno Guimarães silenced Sunderland fans after helping Arsenal win.

Former Newcastle captain Bruno Guimarães put Sunderland ahead in just two minutes before David Raya saved Enzo Le Fay’s penalty before Bukayo Saka scored from the spot in the 97th minute to make it 2-0.

As a result, Arsenal tops the Premier League standings with 12 points from 4 games, while Sunderland ranks 14th with 4 points from 4 games.

Despite saving the penalty and securing the win, Arteta told TNT Sports: “(We won, but) things could have been very different. I’m frustrated.

“(It’s) unacceptable. This (decision) can change the course of a season, a championship, and that’s unacceptable. I (have) watched it 10 times to be sure, at this level, it’s impossible. It can’t happen.”

“In the eyes of anyone who has played football. I’ve been playing football for almost 27, 28 years. It’s not a penalty anyway, in any game, in any situation, in any league. In one sense I’m very happy (for his team), but in another sense I’m worried.”

Bruno Guimarães told TNT Sports: “It’s unbelievable. I feel great.

“Everyone knows I’ve had a difficult start at short notice due to injury but I’m delighted to be back playing.

“I scored a beautiful goal. It’s a great moment for me and my family, I’m very happy.

“A beautiful goal in a very good place. Everyone knows my past. I’ve had an amazing history at Newcastle but now I’m trying to make new history here and I’ve started in the right way.”

Sunderland head coach Regis Lebres said: sky sports: “Pride and disappointment. These are the two words that come to my mind at the moment.

“We are proud because we showed that we are very close against one of the best teams in Europe at the moment and achieved something great.

“Our second half was outstanding. We gained momentum and created chances. Raya made a big save on the penalty kick. The league is ruthless. We conceded goals but we stayed in the game.

“We created other chances but didn’t score and that was the difference today.”
