Matthias Jaissle with a statement of intent ahead of tonight’s Everton match

Matthias Jaissle has issued a statement of intent ahead of tonight’s Everton match.

The game will start at 20:00 at St James’ Park.

Newcastle United will be looking to bounce back from Thursday’s Carabao Cup defeat at Everton.

Although, at the same time, it follows their last Premier League game, a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace.

Ahead of tonight’s Everton call-up, Matthias Jaissle declares: “”I have to admit that we were all disappointed after Thursday night’s Carabao Cup game at Everton, especially with around 8,000 fans watching on such an incredible away trip. We don’t have time for self-pity or excuses – we have to learn quickly, understand what went wrong and where we need to be better, and then make sure we respond to that on the pitch tonight.”

German coach tells Newcastle United fans: “We showed our intent with the number of chances we created and after a really promising start to the game on Thursday, I felt we were in a strong position to build on the win at Crystal Palace. Unfortunately, as we’ve already experienced this season, we gave the opposition good chances to stop and they punished us. It was about the nature of football at the end of the week. It’s about identifying areas we need to improve on and working on them.”

Matthias Jaissle said: “I have said many times before that we are in transition and as last week showed, we fully expect to have ups and downs this season. After nights like Thursday, the important thing is that we all celebrate together and enjoy the moment after victories like Crystal Palace. I admit that sometimes it is easier said than done, but it is important to come down after a win” Defeats will test our character and they will hurt in the short term, but we must respond positively we have to show the right mentality and after the defeat we want the next game to come as soon as possible.
