As Premier League football returns after a three-week break, rival clubs are reluctant to let their managers speak publicly about City’s verdict.
Managers and head coaches, including Maresca, will be asked to comment on the matter during mandatory pre-match press conferences on Friday.
However, it is understood that a number of clubs have already taken a clear stance that their managers will not comment.
Some press conferences were held in the Premier League on Thursday, but Coventry manager Frank Lampard, Leeds manager Daniel Farke and Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle refrained from commenting at length on the matter.
Jaissle said: “As a manager of another club, I don’t think I can make a judgement, and that’s not my job. It’s not particularly in my job description.
“The authorities are dealing with it, a process will be followed and speaking on behalf of the whole club, it’s our job to concentrate and prepare. [the match against Coventry on] on monday.
“On behalf of the club, we have to focus on what we can influence. We just have to focus on what we can do better and what we can influence on the pitch.”
Lampard, who played for “Manchester City” in the 2014-15 season, said: “What can you say when the appeal goes? I’m not in the story, I’m completely outside.
“I played a year at Man City a long time ago, but we’ll wait and see what the outcome of the appeal is and after that. I never know the timelines.
“I’m out of the loop. I’m not avoiding the question. I just don’t feel like I have to answer it.”
Asked what the penalty should be, Lampard replied: “It’s not my job to talk about the penalty or how much it should be. I just can’t answer that.”
