Few footballers strike the ball like former Liverpool duo Steven Gerrard and John Arne Riise – Gerrard with his thunderous right foot and Riise with his cannon of the left.
Both are remembered for iconic goals: Gerrard’s rocket in stoppage time in the 2006 FA Cup final, and Riise’s unstoppable free-kick against Manchester United in 2001.
But after years of debate over who had the strongest shot, two Reds legends were finally put to the test – and Riise came out on top.
The competition is held the day before the competition nexon icon A legendary match at the Seoul World Cup Stadium. The two groups of players went head-to-head in a series of challenges, including Gerrard and Riise blasting balls on a specially-made prop lined with stacked sheets designed to test raw strength.
Riise’s shot proved even more powerful, shattering the entire barrier and eliciting gasps from the Korean crowd. Gerrard’s effort, while still strong, was only half the job.
The moment sparked loud cheers and laughter from players and fans alike. Riise later shared the video on Instagram with the caption: “Memories made today. The Korean fans welcomed us so crazy!” replied an energetic Gerrard, adding a simple laughing emoji.
As for the exhibition match itself, Riese had the last laugh again. His Legends defense beat Gerrard’s attack 2-1 thanks to last-minute goals from Maicon and Park Joo-ho.
