Leeds United suffer fresh injury blow ahead of clash with Crystal Palace, official update

Leeds United will try to keep their unbeaten Premier League record alive when Crystal Palace arrive at Elland Road on Sunday.

Daniel Farke’s side have made one of the most impressive starts in the league, picking up eight points from four games and climbing into third place after beating Newcastle 4-1 on Monday night.

The scoreline did not sit well with Leeds, who played with pace, power and confidence to take a three-goal lead before half-time and deny Newcastle any chance of getting back into the game.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin led the charge brilliantly, with Jaden Bogle and Noah Okafor also playing important roles.

Maintaining this intensity will be a challenge for Crystal Palace.

The away side have struggled to maintain consistency in the league under Pierre Sage and a 3-2 home defeat to Ipswich Town last weekend had already attracted behind-the-scenes criticism, but they received a major boost in European competition on Thursday.

Crystal Palace swept past Lech Poznan 4-0 with goals from Jeremiah Pino, Chris Richards, Jürgen Strand-Larsen and Eddie Nketiah.

It was their best performance of the season and a warning that their attacking players can punish Leeds if given space.

However, a brief turnaround for Crystal Palace could work in the hosts’ favour.

Leeds have almost a full week to recover from their victory at Newcastle, while the Eagles must head north just days after their Europa League tie.

Falke must still make at least one important change after it was confirmed Harry Wilson has been ruled out with a quadriceps problem.

The Wales international will be unavailable this weekend after feeling unwell after the Newcastle game.

Joe Rodon also remains sidelined, although Ilia Gruev returns to the game after regaining fitness for the under-21s.

“Unfortunately, Harry Wilson misses this game with a quadriceps injury. Some problems were reported after the last game,” Farke told reporters.

“Joe Rodon is out. Everyone else is available.”

Wilson’s absence is a frustrating setback as he offers Leeds a different type of threat in the final third.

His left foot, outfield passing and ability to drift into central positions provide Falke with another way to unleash opponents.

Wilson could be particularly missed from set-pieces and with Palace having plenty of height and strength in this area, Leeds will need to make the most of their dead-ball opportunities while also avoiding unnecessary fouls around the penalty area.

Even without Wilson and Rodon, Leeds should be confident they can win the game.

Their early season performance was built on more than just enthusiasm.

Farke’s side look well organised, adaptable and increasingly dangerous in attack and have plenty in their locker to take all three points on Sunday.
