Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvica Kvaratzhelia will miss the rest of the season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in last night’s Champions League win over Barcelona.
The Georgian national team player of “Barca” fell to the ground under the challenge of Xavi Espart and landed awkwardly at the “Parc des Princes”. He was sent off just before the hour mark and the bad news was revealed after trials this morning.
It was a devastating blow for both player and club, with Kvaratshelia instrumental in PSG’s back-to-back Champions League successes since joining from Napoli in January 2025.
PSG’s medical update reads: “Xvicha Kvaratshelia, who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during yesterday’s match against FC Barcelona, will undergo surgery in the coming days.”
PSG won 4-2 in a thrilling encounter to complete the Catalans’ 100% start to the season, but it came at a significant cost with Kvaratshelia only to suffer a setback.
PSG received a triple blow
The medical update also revealed that both Ousmane Dembele and captain Marquinhos have suffered thigh injuries that will keep them out for several weeks.
Speaking after the game, PSG coach Luis Enrique admitted he was disappointed at the prospect of being without three key players at a crucial stage of the season.
“I’m not a doctor. I’m a coach,” he said. “The three injuries are the worst part of today’s game. We have to wait for the tests tomorrow. They are three very important players, so of course it’s bad news, but that’s football.”
What hurt the Parisians the most was the loss of Kvaratskhelia.
Nicknamed “Quaradona” by Napoli fans as a tribute to the great Diego Maradona, the multi-talented playmaker is a key part of the club’s attacking arsenal.
He scored 29 goals in 91 games for PSG in all competitions.
