That says something about the overall situation at the Emirates Stadium this season. With so much money already spent on the pursuit of forwards over the summer, and even more being directed towards deals for the likes of Ezri Konsa, keeping the wage bill as contained as possible even in the midst of an ambitious title defense clearly remains a priority for Berta and the recruitment department.
Advocates will only be happy to see the situation move towards resolution rather than being plunged into real uncertainty. Havertz has become so important to this Arsenal side that his contract, wage increase or not, can only be viewed as a formality, and a new deal on these terms would be a sensible outcome for both parties.
