Goals from Oliver Provstgaard, Gustav Isaksen and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru saw Juventus lose 3-0 at home to Lazio on Sunday (October 18) as they moved level with Inter at the top of Serie A. The result, reported by Football Italia and confirmed in Juventus’ match report, was Lazio’s first win since October 21.
Three goals punish Juventus’ missed chances
Lazio took the lead in the 37th minute after a short corner, Mattia Zaccagni’s cross finding Provstgaard for a close-range header. Isaksen headed in Nuno Tavares’ cross to make it 2-0 in the 66th minute without cutting inside and finding the bottom corner.
Dele-Bashiru rounded off the scoring in the 89th minute, taking the ball forward from his own half and beating Guglielmo Vicario with an angled drive. Juventus had a chance to respond: Randal Kolo Muani had an offside attempt saved, while Nick Woltemade and Nico Gonzalez went close. The match statistics showed the hosts had 58 percent possession and nine shots apiece, but Lazio had three attempts on target to Juventus’ two.
The loss came after a tough week. Juventus beat Celta Vigo 2-1 away in the Europa League on Thursday but have won just once in their previous four league outings. Kanan Yıldız, Manuel Locatelli, Khephren Thuram, Jeff Ekhator and Kamil Grabara were absent, Jeremy Boga returned to the bench. Luciano Spalletti awarded a touch penalty after arguing with Cagliari coach Fabio Pisacane, leaving his assistant Marco Domenici in charge from the bench.
As “Juve” retreated, “Lazio” remains on the same level with “Inter”.
Lazio needed a win to stay joint leaders and the result gave the Bianconeri more ground. According to Corriere della Sera, Juventus are in eighth place with 11 points, eight behind Inter Milan and Lazio, who have 19 points each. The defeat adds to concerns around a season in which Juventus have struggled to translate their performances into league results since their draw with Cagliari.
Corriere also reports that Juventus has a +1 goal difference, +12 for Inter and +10 for Lazio. The tournament piles up the pressure on Juventus to respond in the next league rounds, while Lazio leave Turin with a big result and stay alongside Inter at the top.
