Jamie Vardy’s legendary Leicester City chapter came to an end last season, but the 38-year-old cult hero has already hit the headlines in Italy after joining Serie A side Cremonese.
Vardy signed an initial one-year contract with the newly-promoted club, which includes the option to extend for a further 12 months, and the transfer is progressing smoothly so far. Cremonese remain unbeaten in third place as Vardy makes his debut and reports suggest he and wife Rebecca are settling in well sweet life and their two children.
The couple bought a £2m villa in Salò – historically the home base of the notorious Benito Mussolini and, coincidentally, now also the hometown of Vardy’s new team-mate Romano Mussolini, the dictator’s great-grandson.
As well as enjoying their new surroundings, the Vardys are taking Italian language classes. However, Jamie is said to be particularly fond of the more colorful parts of the vocabulary.
“Jamie and Betsy have grown to love Italian life and have made every effort to blend in seamlessly. The whole family is taking Italian language classes and Jamie has become accustomed to some of the more colorful swear words,” a source told reporters the sun.
Apparently his favorite so far is “Wafankulo” – a not-so-polite phrase that roughly translates to “get lost.”
This fits Vardy’s reputation perfectly: he said before Deliberately learning swear words in the language of Premier League opponents in order to shut down their conversations during games. Now, he appears to have brought that cheeky skill to Serie A – meaning the Italian defender may have more than just a headache chasing him.
