Pat McAfee has had a controversial presence on ESPN’s “College GameDay” for the past four seasons. Certainly popular among some segments of the fandom, others see him as too unusual a profile for a traditional spot in ESPN’s commentary and analysis ranks.
ESPN executive Mike Foss spoke with Front Office Sports on Tuesday and shared his thoughts on the former NFL player. According to him, McAfee is “a journalist at heart”.
NFL fans reacted to Foss’ comments about X.
“This is a shame. I thought this guy just worked on the show, but he’s actually a network executive!?” one fan wrote.
“He wasn’t a good player at all,” said another.
Some thought he misrepresented journalism.
Some fans thought this would be the end of ESPN as we know it.
What did Mike Foss say about Pat McAfee?
Speaking to Front Office Sports this week, ESPN executive Mike Foss had nothing but praise for Pat McAfee.
“He may be a journalist at heart,” Foss said. “I think he puts the show together every day and whatever sparks his interest, he’s got a rolodex. He’s able to navigate the waters and he’s built an access that a lot of people can’t. So he’s very quick to grab information when he needs to get information on or off the show.”
Not only does McAfee appear on “College GameDay,” he also hosts alternate broadcasts for the NFL and has his own show, The Pat McAfee Show, which runs on ESPN.
