Irish Premier League: Five-goal thriller a win for Coleraine at Larne?

For his part, Gary Haveron was disappointed as his side allowed a two-goal lead at home and described the defending from his players as “bitter”.

Before Friday’s game, Larne had conceded just three goals in their first seven league matches.

But Colerain’s fightback – led by Cooper, Shevlin and Doherty – meant they doubled their tally in a devastating 21-minute burst.

Nevertheless, Haveron dismissed any suggestion that this was a statement victory for the Bannsiders.

“We still have to play them there,” Haveron said.

“We drew the first one, they won that game. We still have a lot of games to play against them and a lot of football between now and the end of the season.”

Having lost influential midfielder Chris Gallagher, Larne will have to lick their wounds when they welcome fellow title rivals Linfield to Inver Park on Tuesday.

Friday’s defeat caps a disappointing week for Larne after conceding a controversial injury-time penalty at Wilgar Park as Championship side Dundela lost on penalties in the County Antrim Shield.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to bounce back from a disappointing week,” Haveron said of the trip to Linfield.

“I’m not worried about Tuesday night [against Dundela]I honestly have nothing else to say about it.

“But it was very disappointing today because we won that game and we should have killed it.”
