The Estevao gimmick at Chelsea has simmered all season and came to a head against Liverpool on Tuesday when he didn’t even get a minute.

Xabi Alonso answered questions about the decision not to use a winger after the game. But reporters returned today for a Man U preview and had more questions about the Brazilian and whether he was unhappy about not being fully utilized by the new manager.

“Yes, of course,” Alonso admitted when asked if the winger was disappointed.

“It’s no secret that all the players want to be on the pitch, they want to play, and when any of them don’t have enough minutes by my decision, I have to take responsibility for that, they’re not as happy as they could be.

“But everyone has to be ready because in any game they could be important, they could be part of the team and Este, his training and attitude was good. Like Valentin Barco, like Marco Palestra, like Danny Welbeck, all these players don’t play that regularly, but that’s football and that’s a squad and that’s a team.”

He still says “there’s nothing to see here” and insists that Estevao’s chance will come.

In other news…

Xabi Alonso told the media today that he spoke to Palmer after his red card a week ago – but said it wasn’t obvious at all.

Maxence Lacroix will not be involved in tomorrow’s game or another game for around a month after confirming Alonso’s injury.
