Glasner promised changes after the recent Forest debacle

Oliver Glasner admits something needs to change at Nottingham Forest after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Brentford.

Nikola Milenkovic fortuitously turned Dango Ouattara’s cross into his own net before Igor Thiago rounded off the points with another blunder from the Serbian defender.

At 1-0, Ryan Yates came closest to equalizing for the visitors, but his header went over the crossbar as Forest looked to hit back.

The result means that Glasner is still searching for a top-flight win since September’s win over Aston Villa, with Forest now winless in five Premier League matches, losing four.

Forest have also failed to score in five of their nine Premier League games this season. No side has done it more often, and that’s despite having more expected goals (xG) than their opponents in seven out of nine matches.

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day after the defeat, the Austrian admitted a change was needed. .

“It’s the same story every week, but if things always happen the same way, there’s a pattern,” Glasner said. “It’s absolutely clear today, we have to change something.”

That’s the harsh assessment of the manager who arrived at Forest in July after a hugely successful spell with Crystal Palace, where he guided them to FA Cup, Community Shield and UEFA Conference League glory.

Glasner also pointed to repeated mistakes on both ends of the court.

“We’re making too many mistakes. It just can’t be. It’s too obvious. We’re slow, we’re making the same mistakes, we’re always making different players,” he said.

“If you always miss chances, this is an example. I don’t want to talk about statistics because they don’t count. We didn’t score and conceded two goals.”

Forest’s lack of forwards remains a major concern as no side have scored fewer goals in the Premier League this season than the Tricky Trees, with just six.

Glasner praised the reserve for Brentford’s second goal, describing it as a “fantastic counter-attack”.

The move was completed by Thiago, who scored for only the second time in the Premier League this season.

“It feels good,” said the Brazilian. “I’m delighted to score another goal for Brentford.

“I have to thank the fans because they have supported me a lot throughout the journey.

“When people believe in you, you feel like you can go further.”

Brentford’s win keeps Keith Andrews’ side sixth in the table and within two points of the Premier League’s top four.
