The Future Eagles, who finished six matches unbeaten in the ongoing FIFA U15 World Cup and Festival in Azerbaijan, succumbed to superior firepower, losing 3:6 to their counterparts from the Republic of Benin on Wednesday evening.
Captain Timothy Ogar Ijachi scored twice to take his tally to 11 goals in the tournament, while Wisdom Boniface scored Nigeria’s second goal of the competition.
Ijachi has been quite a revelation in Baku. He scored in a 3-3 draw with South Sudan on the opening day, scored in a 2-2 draw with Jordan on Sunday morning and scored in a 3-3 draw with Gambia on Sunday evening.
He was on song again on Monday morning, scoring the winner in a 2-1 win over Cyprus and a few hours later scoring Nigeria’s only goal in a 1-1 draw with Pakistan.
On Wednesday, he scored a hat-trick in a 7-0 rout of New Caledonia before scoring another goal in a loss to Benin Republic.
