More details will be revealed on Wednesday afternoon as fans call for Lee Cattermole to be sacked amid growing unrest in Gateshead.
Ahead of the game against Kidderminster, journalist Pete O’Rourke posted a tweet claiming there had been growing unrest at the club after several members of last season’s squad were placed in a “bomb squad”.
He added: “They were told to stay away from the first team, train individually in the afternoon and be removed from group chats.”
They are currently ranked 23rd in the Nations League standings, with 4 points from 7 games.

Lee Cattermole reflects on the weekend’s 4-0 loss to Forest Green: “Obviously disappointed with the result, the performance and elements could have been better, but there were still moments in the game and if we did get the first goal it was a good chance and our cross in the box was loopy and then when we were 1-0 down we had a ball cleared and we knew that goal changed the game.
“They changed the momentum of the team, they changed the confidence and belief of the team. So, yes, there was a lot to improve on with our performance. We were hoping to improve things for them tonight in Keady, but you know, it’s a disappointing result. It’s been a long journey, you know, but the good thing about this league and football in general is that there’s always another game and that was tonight.
interviewer: “You obviously talked tonight about Kiddy leaving. I mean, just coming back really well, getting back into the league, obviously coming up last season, but doing well early in the season. What kind of test do you anticipate you’re going to have to endure tonight?”
plum: “I think when you advance, you have the drive to win games, you have the belief. They had a big crowd on Friday night. There were over 3,000 people there. So, we knew what type of game we were going to play.
“We watched the game together on Friday night when we were at Forest Green. So, you know, we watched them carefully and they are a very dynamic team, very aggressive forward and we knew the threat of the first and second goal and we had to be brave enough to face that.
“But we also recognize the areas where we can go and take advantage and hurt them and we have to believe in ourselves and hopefully you know hopefully perform well and then get the results.”
interviewer: “You mentioned feeling like you had some moments in Saturday’s game? What did you feel needed to go right for you that maybe didn’t go as well tonight on Saturday?”
plum: “Yeah. I think we had a lot more body around the ball, even though it might not have come off because the contact wasn’t coming from us, you know, but there was definitely a lot more body around the ball at the top of the pitch and then now how can we help them stay alive in those moments in the final third. It wasn’t there on Saturday but we saw the body was there. So now how do we fix that and make it better?
“Look at this moment with this team. You know, I know how big this is going to turn out for us. I think it’s really going to change the belief in the team and it’s going to help the whole club move in the same direction and you know that’s football and we have a great opportunity to go out there tonight and really come together and try to get the right result.”
interviewer: “I mean, I think the results obviously are probably the obvious answer, but in terms of the challenge that the group faced tonight, I guess what was the challenge that you set for them to go out tonight and be happy with what you saw? Obviously, like I said, getting a win is the obvious answer, but at this point?”
plum“First of all, just the individual performance, the collective performance and executing the job we did yesterday and believing in that, you know a lot of the players that come into the club that I’m in charge of, I believe in them. Seeing their individual qualities and the technical and tactical aspects of the game, you know now it’s about coming together as a team and taking this group forward and I know how important results are for the team and the football club.
“It looks like tonight is another opportunity. It’s going to be a tall order, but I feel like we can definitely perform well in it and then you know, in football you need a little luck as well. You know, you need a little luck in the game as well. Over the course of the season, I’ve felt at times, we’ve been good in some games but we haven’t been that lucky yet.
“So, yeah, look, it’s going to be a good challenge for us, we’re ready for it and I’ve seen a good reaction from the players since the weekend. So, yeah, looking forward to going there.”
interviewer: “How does everything look like in terms of the team’s fitness situation? “Obviously, you played a few games last week and a few more games this week, so they’re paying a lot of attention to you right now. “
plum: “No, we’re good. We’re going down with the same team. So it’s all good.”
Wonder what would have happened if last year’s youngsters had a chance to play this🤦🏽♂️

Fans are calling for Lee Cattermole to be sacked amid growing turmoil within Gateshead…
@TheDB30: Let him go. The fans don’t want him, the players don’t want him, he’s toxic and he’s not a good fit for management.
@andymason86: Cattermole has to go, the fans want him gone and the players want him gone and the longer this goes on the more damage is done and what little respect remains for the board is lost
Harry Lennier: According to Pete O Rourke on The
@DavidHindmarsh7: I like Lee Cattermole, but it doesn’t work at all.
@JackRobo1209: An absolute disgrace. Fire him immediately before he does more damage. Players like Sam Bowen and Harry Chapman are what we are absolutely craving.
@archiegfcx: The club captain, Chapman and Bowen have been instrumental in our progress. Fire him now
@MartyJHewitt: Ah, yes. What a great way to run a football club.
@LRbix: Get rid of him quickly
@ProsightMatt: Can’t believe Chapman and Ferguson are in it. Two of their standout players, especially Chapman, who was rumored to be leaving in the summer, stayed and were treated as such. Very sad for the Minds…given the financial situation and their precarious position in the league, they certainly can’t afford the turmoil. What might this achieve? Cattermole is already treading on thin ice, and will this happen again? oops
@DanTakesOnFooty: It all happened in Gateshead. Some players who performed well last season have been frozen out by Lee Cattermole. Many supporters are already frustrated with Cattermole and I can’t see how this will do him any good. What a mess!
@Savlad41: Apart from the right and wrong opinions here we need to support the players who are doing their best to get Gateshead out of trouble…the players wear the badge and let’s make them want to break through the brick walls for us and let everyone else look after themselves
@tashkent error: Of course, given how well some of them performed last season, it wouldn’t take a genius to figure out where one or two of them might go if they were now on the transfer list and unpopular, according to Gateshead fans.
@ Owen H04: The bomb squad was set up, he had been on the job less than three months, and unlike someone like Lee Cattermole… he saw this coming…
@Superfreak_81: He was never the right person, kick him out now and give the new guy a chance to correct his mistakes.
@PeterDAnderson: Given the results so far this season, I’d suggest Lee Cattermole may need to reconsider
Jack Robson: An absolute disgrace. Fire him immediately before he does more damage. Players like Sam Bowen and Harry Chapman are what we are absolutely craving. Keaton Ward is now out and basically saying he was forced out. Fire him now before he makes this club even more toxic through his incompetence. Absolutely shocking.
@jamiebrock91: Get them registered @Official_Darlo
