Fan banter, sending off goals and a dull attack – Jaissle is in big trouble at Newcastle

No Premier League side has lost more home games in 2026 than Newcastle (7), while they have now lost 16 of their last 18 league games when scoring first.

The Magpies have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last 14 home league games – the longest in league history.

It all points to troubling times with Jaissle just three months into his four-year contract.

“I’m a bit scared for Newcastle,” former Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports.

“They have young managers and young players. When a team doesn’t win, you always question the manager.

“I think it’s going to be a tough season. At home, especially, it feels flat and boring and I never expected to say that about Jaissle’s Newcastle. Coming from the Red Bull model, you’d expect it to be front-footed and exciting.”

“Newcastle” is in the last half of the tournament table with 11 points after 9 games.

There was always going to be a period of transition following the departure of Eddie Howe after five years in charge and the arrival of 38-year-old Jaissle after successful spells in Saudi Arabia and Austria.

In addition, Newcastle lost a number of key players in the summer, including Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.

Earlier in the year, Newcastle United chief executive David Hopkinson said that by 2030 they could be “in the discussion about being the best club in the world”.

It seems far-fetched amid suggestions the club’s Saudi Arabian owners, the Public Investment Fund, are running out of ambition.

The Jaissle keeper didn’t help on Monday, with Horniček allowing a routine shot under his body for Thierno Barry to slot home the winner.

The Newcastle boss claimed Barry’s winner should not have been disallowed for a foul on Fabian Schar, but he admitted his players struggled to show the courage required to get back into the game.

“It’s almost like a negative spiral. “I don’t agree with the judge’s decision.

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t really get a result in 90 minutes. It wasn’t our game and it wasn’t our style of play.

“It’s something we’re very disappointed and disappointed about. If you can’t deliver when it matters, then you don’t deserve to win.

“We weren’t brave enough in possession too long.”

Jaissle admits he lacks confidence amid Newcastle’s woeful run.

“Not only with the young guys, but with the more experienced ones, there are some moments where you’re not very confident,” he said.

“It’s a difficult period. We also know that you can only overcome this as a unit. We worked hard and looked good, but unfortunately we didn’t deliver.

“We will analyze in detail and try to improve everything against Fulham.”
