Defender Dylan Lawlor will miss Wales’ final two Nations League matches against Norway and Portugal through injury.
The 20-year-old suffered a setback for Cardiff City against Watford earlier this month, only to be ruled out for the start of the season as he returned from a knee problem.
He was sidelined until after the international break in November.
“It’s obviously very disappointing,” said Bluebirds boss Brian Barry-Murphy.
“He’s worked hard to come back from a knee injury that he’s had for a long time.
“But it gives him a chance to do his rehab the right way without rushing it and make sure he’s good to go again when he comes back.”
Lawlor has not played for Wales since picking up his first challenge in June’s 1-1 draw with Ghana.
He made his first start of the season at Blackburn on 10 October, only three days later suffering a hamstring problem.
