Denzel Boston Leads the Class in Four Major Categories

Denzel Boston continued his stellar rookie year for the Cleveland Browns in Week 5 against the New York Jets. The wide receiver caught another long pass for the Browns’ only touchdown in a 17-12 loss.

For the season, Boston has 16 receptions on 29 targets for 330 yards, three TDs and 12 first downs. Those numbers made him a legitimate contender to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.

A second-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and the seventh wide receiver off the board, Boston leads his class in four major categories — total yards, yards per catch, touchdowns and first downs — without passing.

“Denzel Boston ranks among rookie WRs: 1st – Receiving yards; 1st – Receiving yards; 1st – receiving TDs; 1st – First downs. 0 drops in 5 first games for Sumer Sports,” Underdog NFL published.

Overall, Boston leads the NFL with 20.6 yards per catch, and his receiving yards are 15th. His TDs are 12th and his first downs are 29th.

Boston lined up to catch its first game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter on Sunday after catching a 29-yard pass from quarterback Deshaun Watson. It gave the Browns a 12-10 lead with 6:15 left, but after a bad Cleveland punt, the Jets were able to take a 17-12 lead. Despite having two more possessions, the Browns failed to win for the fourth straight game.

Cleveland has just nine touchdowns this season, Boston has a third of those, all of which have come on long passes. His first was a 46-yard TD in the fourth quarter of a 34-10 season-opening loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Added a 55-yard score in a 23-19 Week 2 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Boston had a 28-yard catch in a 23-18 win over the Carolina Panthers in Week 3, and his 60-yard catch set up a TD in a 27-24 Week 4 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Against the Jets, he had two other catches for 17 yards.

Now, with rookie KC Concepcion in the concussion protocol after taking a scary hit in the first quarter on Sunday, Boston could play a bigger role in its upcoming Week 6 game against the Baltimore Ravens.
