Craig Overton: Somerset all-rounder says focus is on county form, not England

Somerset all-rounder Craig Overton says he wants to continue his excellent form for his county and make it “as difficult as possible” for the England selectors.

Overton was named men’s player of the year at the Professional Cricketers’ Association awards following Somerset’s impressive season, which saw them finish runners-up in the County Championship.

Overton took 53 wickets – third best in the First Division – at an average of 19.18 and scored 734 runs, including three hundreds.

The 32-year-old has been capped 15 times by England, including eight Tests and seven one-day internationals, but has not played for his country since 2022.

“If I’m good enough they’ll pick me and at the moment they don’t and that’s their prerogative and they see their side going differently, that’s fine,” Overton told the BBC Test Match Special podcast after receiving his award.

“For me, it’s just about making plays and making decisions as hard as possible.”
